Looking for something pretty to perk up your spring garden after a cold wintertime? I know, you’re thinking, why are we already talking about spring? I am not ready to think about summer again! Well, the thing is, if you want something pretty in the spring, you have to think ahead. But, lucky for you, I have compiled a list of things that you can plant now and see in the spring ! It gives you something to look forward to all the bleak winter long.
-bleeding heart starts blooming early spring and lasts for 7-10 days, but the foliage stays pretty until the middle of the summer .
-Lilac! There are so many kinds to choose from, and all so gorgeous . They ordinarily bloom for about two weeks, but different varieties bloom at various times, so if you time your garden right, you can have a spring full of lilacs!
-Baptisias show their glory in mid-spring. This baby can flourish with only a bit of water! There is quite the color variety of these, as well .
-Goatsbeard also pops up mid spring. They can grow to three feet tall! Wow!
-Azaleas bloom mid-season and the Gumpo types blossom at the end of spring.
-Virginia sweetspire comes out to play in late spring. This lovely flower has lovely fall tinted foliage..for that punch of fall in spring.
-Tulips…these are my favorite. Plant before the first freeze, but not too far before, and you will yield a fabulous garden come spring. If you live in a warmer climate, it helps to chill the bulbs in the freezer for a few weeks prior to planting. You can find specific maps of climate zones online.
Here’s to fall, for a pretty spring!
